AGSI Sponsors Five Athletes at 2014 Canadian Cross-Country Championships

On Saturday, November 29, 2014, Vancouver will host the 2014 Canadian Cross-Country Championships.

AGSI is sponsoring five local athletes to compete at this upcoming National event for a run at a Canadian National Team Selection as well as both the Individual and Team Championship titles.

This is a Trials event and Athletics Canada will be selecting up to six athletes to represent Canada at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Guiyang, China, and the NACAC Cross Country Championships (location to be determined). Both championship races to be held in March 2015.

The women's Go360 Racing team, will comprise of Mackenzie Cameron, Emily Wesseling, Sarah Wismer, and Rachyl MacPhail. The girls will compete in the Junior Women's 6km championship race. Each of the girls ran exceptional races at the 2014 at CIS and OFSSA Cross Country Champions earlier this month as part of their preparation for this upcoming National championship event.

AGSI's Go360 Field Researcher Taylor Milne, a graduate of High Point University, will also race in the Senior Men's 10km championship race. Taylor is a seasoned runner and has been training in the 3,000m steeplechase recently. In the past Taylor has competed for Canada at the Commonwealth Games as well as the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics in China in the 1,500m event. Over the past five years he has been one of the country's top and most consistent middle-distance runners and is the 2,000m Canadian Record Holder.

All of the athletes currently race with the Speed River Track and Field Club in Guelph, Ontario. The club, founded by Dave Scott-Thomas in 1997, attracts University of Guelph student athletes as well as local runners.

Races will be held throughout the day on Saturday, November 29. The races to watch for will the Junior Women's 6km Championship at 11:45 am, and the Senior Men's 10km Championship at 2:30pm. Live video stream and results can be seen on the Canadian XC Championship website.

AGSI has always been a proud supporter of Canadian track and field and its athletes and its founders have a long tradition with the sport, competing at the very same National event some three decades ago. In the past AGSI has also been a title sponsor for the National Championships.
